Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Light4Refugee (L4R) is a refugee youth-led organization dedicated to empowering refugee students through academic preparation, university accessibility, and career guidance. Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty, often resulting from displacement, by empowering refugee youth to access quality education, build sustainable careers, and dignify lives amidst the consistent sharp decline in external funding.
L4R currently operates in Rwanda, serving students from different refugee camps - mainly Mahama and Kiziba Refugee Camps and urban refugee communities but strives to stretch the impact in all refugee camps in Rwanda.
L4R was founded by young refugees who witnessed firsthand the urgency of targeted interventions for sustainable transformation in refugee communities. Our lived experiences inspired a grassroots solution designed to bridge the critical educational and opportunity gaps that hinder the potential of refugee youth. We work from the premise that true and lasting change always comes from within.
L4R is developed by refugees for refugees. What truly sets L4R’s programs apart is the uniqueness of its structure, which ensures a contextualized, blended learning model. The programs uniquely integrate academic excellence with targeted mentorship and practical, real-world skills, all informed by a profound, firsthand understanding of the barriers refugee students encounter. We deliver holistic and sustained support, empowering students not just to succeed, but to emerge as leaders.
L4R provides a comprehensive range of support to equip refugee students with all the tools they need for success in higher education and employment. This includes intensive English language training, personalized college application guidance, dedicated career development mentorship, and practical skills-building workshops.
